Moderna (MRNA) New Uptrend: Above 8-Week EMA with SR Flip
Not many big biotech stocks are down almost 90% from their all-time highs. After peaking in August 2021 at $497 per share – and then crashing to pre-Covid lows – Moderna has started to rally. The stock is now trading near $50 and is holding above its 8-week exponential moving average (EMA).
The price chart looks like it’s formed a long-term low – turning old resistance into new support. Here’s what to look out for next.

ToggleModerna and the 8-week EMA
The 8-week exponential moving average (EMA) updates each week by taking the closing prices of Moderna over the past eight weeks. It applies a formula to those prices to get an “exponential” average. That formula makes the EMA more responsive to recent weeks than a “simple” moving average.
The 8-week EMA can act as price support when an investment is having a sustained rally. And that’s what we see with Moderna right now. The price initially reached $55 in January this year, then pulled back to about $37 in early February – before closing back above the 8-week EMA. The price also found support at the 8-week EMA in December 2025.
MRNA support resistance flip
The $35 to $37 region has been a strong resistance ceiling for Moderna throughout 2025. The price tried a few times to break above it, but kept getting rejected back down. In January this year, it rallied through that ceiling – then retested it as support in February.
That’s a classic “support resistance flip”: the old resistance has now flipped into new support.
Could Moderna go higher?
Fundamentally, Moderna is a mixed bag. The company made billions during the Covid vaccine boom, but that revenue collapsed once demand faded. It’s now trying to rebuild growth with a pipeline of mRNA vaccines for flu, RSV, and cancer.
Investors are now wondering if Moderna can recover its financial health – or if it was just a one-hit Covid wonder.
We’ll let the chart decide. For now, the chart is bullish – as long as it holds above the 8-week EMA. And doesn’t reverse its support resistance flip.
