Free Investment Spreadsheets

In the book Stop Saving Start Investing, I mention three different investment spreadsheets that can help you invest. You can download each spreadsheet by clicking the links below.

There’s a fourth spreadsheet at the bottom of this page that’s not in the book…

Each spreadsheet serves a different purpose. You’ll need Microsoft Excel to use them.

You can download Excel easy enough, but if you don’t want to do that you can either:

1. Use Excel at your work while your boss isn’t looking, or
2. Find a friend, relative or partner who owes you a favour!

Investment Spreadsheet 1: The Wealth Calculator

In the words of Albert Einstein, “Compound Interest is the 8th wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn’t, pays it.” The Wealth Calculator spreadsheet shows you why.

Use it to see how you could grow your wealth by investing for many years. All you need to do is go to the instructions tab and enter:

1. Your starting investment amount (how much you invest in the first year)
2. The average amount you plan to invest each year after that
3. The return you expect to average each year

The other of tabs of the spreadsheet will then show you the results. Be realistic with the numbers, and have fun with them!

Investment Spreadsheet 2: The Dividend Re-investor

Re-investing your dividends each year back into your investment portfolio can MASSIVELY grow your wealth over time.

Use the Dividend Calculator spreadsheet to see what the difference in your wealth would be when you re-invest your dividends versus when you don’t.

On the instructions tab of the spreadsheet, simply enter:

1. Your starting investment value (or the amount you plan to invest in the first year)
2. The average amount you plan to invest each year after that
3. Your expected yearly future capital growth
4. Your expected yearly dividend return

Again, the other of tabs of the spreadsheet will then show you the results.

Investment Spreadsheet 3: The Value Averaging Calculator

Value Averaging is a good investment strategy because it forces you to buy low and sell high.
