Bitcoin 6-Month Candles: 5 Green In a Row
Bitcoin has printed five 6-month green candles in a row, with the price going up every 6-months since January 2023. The last time it did that was between July 2015 and December 2017 – though the percentage price jump was much higher back then. Still, this bitcoin bull run has been steady and consistent.
How does this compare to other bitcoin bull runs?
In prior bull runs, each 6-month green candle varied in size. In 2017, they got bigger before December’s bitcoin “blow-off top”. But the 2021 bull run was different: the last two candles were relatively smaller – and then came the big red. This time, the green candles are similar in size, meaning the gains have been more steady.
Traditional assets do this all the time
This makes sense given bitcoin’s bigger market size today – it now trades more like a traditional asset. Gold and the S&P 500 often see multiple 6-month winning streaks. Gold had four years of green between January 2009 and December 2012. And between July 1994 and December 1999, the S&P 500 index had eleven green half year candles in a row.
So if this December closes green for the second half of 2025, it would be a new record for bitcoin. But in traditional markets, it’s par for the course.
