A Bit About Me…
Millions of people want to learn how to invest so they can make their money work for them.
But with all the ‘get rich quick’ investment schemes, trading workshops and ‘stock picking secrets’ on the internet, it’s hard to know where to start!
I started out just like everyone else – not knowing what I was doing. Even though I studied finance and economics at university, I was still clueless investing in my younger days.
I remember my first investment…
At twenty-three, I had just moved to London from South Africa for an entry level finance role at Morgan Stanley. I spent £1,000 (which I couldn’t afford) on shares in a smallish company that was tipped to be the next “internet of alternative energy production”…
I got the tip in one of the ‘investment guru’ email newsletters I had subscribed to a week earlier. I never did my own research, and for that I deserved to lose my entire investment.
Luckily, I never lost any money.
But I never made any money either. The stocks just hovered around £1,000 for about a year until I got really bored and sold them.
Frustrated, I decided to do whatever I could to become a better investor.
I started reading investment magazines like Moneyweek and Shares Magazine religiously. I read countless books on investing, and any piece of financial news that I could get my hands on.
I was hooked from the start.
One rainy Saturday morning in early 2014, while reading the weekly issue of Moneyweek and enjoying my third cup of tea, I saw an advert for an investment seminar in London. I paid the £100 entrance fee and never looked back.
Let’s just say it was a good investment. Since then I’ve joined a few investment clubs and surrounded myself with like-minded people: the type who truly understand the power of long-term wealth creation.
I now invest in mutual funds, angel startup companies, cryptocurrencies and a bit of gold for a rainy day.
Through Stopsaving.com, I’m passing on what I’ve learned in these areas to anyone who is interested.
